We love chocolate at A Bit of Wine. What goes better with a glass of wine than sweet rich chocolate?
This is one of the many reasons we are excited to partner with DCS Chocolates. They hand dip all of their chocolate creations and have a wide portfolio of creative chocolates for all occasions.
The Chocolate.
But as we move into warmer weather, the traditional pairing of chocolate with red wine seems so passe. So, today we are going to add a special twist on this wine pairing. DCS Chocolates has a salted caramel chocolate cups featured and we have found an amazing pairing that goes along with the delicious balance of salty and sweet.
To ring in the warm weather, we pair DCS Chocolates' salted caramel chocolate cups with Hogue Reisling from the Columbia Valley of California.
The Wine.
Unlike most super sweet riesling wine, Hogue Riesling, 2011 is a semi-sweet yet dry wine that is fruit forward with a nose of crisp apple. At first taste, the fruit tones come through with more of a tropical punch. I even pick up notes of melon with a finish of honey. It's pale straw color and light fruity flavors make for a perfect springtime glass of wine. With salted chocolate and caramel, this Hogue Riesling cuts the bitterness of the chocolate while balancing the salt and adding just the right amount of sweetness. Chocolate with a white wine may not be the norm, but it is an out-of-the-box pairing sure to make your taste buds sing!
